June 19th and 20th 2010
We have begun to plan a full weekends Vintage Computer Festival at the museum. Early days in the planning, but there is more information on the VCF-GB web site. Click here for more details.
Electronic Office
04.12.2009
Work continues in this gallery with wallpapering and painting underway. Due to the amount of work involved, volunteer availability and other higher priority work, we will not hav this gallery completed until the new year now.
12.11.2009
Work continues at a slower pace than originally anticipated due to volunteer effort availability and other projects. The main construction has been completed so the next stage is painting and decorating followed by installation of the exhibits. We are hoping to complete the work before Christmas.
10.09.2009
Work has now started on refitting the Electronic Office gallery which means it will be closed for the next few weeks. We have some interesting ideas for the 'new look' which will be announced once it is completed.
Packet Switching and the Internet
05.12.2009
The new 'Technology of the Internet' gallery, sponsored by NPL, had it's formal opening on 4th Dec 2009 and is now open to the general public.
08.11.2009
The building work and fitting out of the gallery by Bex is almost complete. We will soon start the installation of the display boards, exhibits and audio/visual equipment. Work has also started on decorating the surrounding corridors.
12.06.2009
Preliminary building work has started on a new sponsored gallery to show the history of packet switching and the Internet. This is going to take several months to complete.
Debits and Credits Gallery
04.12.2009
We are still looking for sponsors for this gallery, but in the meantime work continues on restoring the equipment to working condition.
12.11.2009
Restoration of the punch card equipment continues at a slow but steady pace. We are still looking for sponsorship for this gallery so it may be some time before it is open fully to the public.
10.05.2009
This gallery will show some early 40 column punch card equipment used for analysing and collating data. The equipment has now arrived from Liverpool and is being evaluated as to it's condition. We still have a lot of work to do to make it viewable to the public but hope to have it open as soon as suitable sponsors are found for the fitting out. Work has also started on the restoration of the equipment to working order, but this activity is likely to take a long time as we have 12 large machines to restore.
