STEM Winter Bytes 2019 - Four unique activities
The Winter Bytes festival is here once again, and we have four great activities for kids aged four and upwards.
There are Minecraft challenges, Lego robot building and programming, BBC micro:bit programming and hands-on play programming with the help of a friendly wooden robot.
So, lots to fascinate kids between Christmas and New Year.
Minecraft Challenge
Minecraft is an open-world construction-based video game that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in an immersive environment where the only limit is your imagination.
Lego Mindstorms Robots activities
Parental participation required because of the nature of the activity - allow 1-2 hours.
Participants will work with Lego Mindstorms to build and program a robot to solve a variety of problems, including mazes, moving objects and even racing. Lego Mindstorm kits are one of the world's most popular robotics kits, and can teach youngsters the potential of applying creative automated solutions to real-world problems.
BBC micro:bit drop-in workshops
The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer that you can code, customise and control to bring your digital ideas, games and apps to life.
In this workshop, children can learn to code from pre-constructed challenges and tasks that are designed to promote logical, creative thinking. We have a range of challenges suitable for all ages
Cubetto & Sphero Minis Drop-in
Cubetto is a friendly wooden robot that will teach your child the basics of computer programming through adventure and hands-on play. Montessori-approved and LOGO Turtle-inspired, Cubetto is ideal for little coders getting started.
Sphero Minis - suitable from ages 4 - 50+, are programmable, extremely fun little robot that can help kids learn how tiny code changes can have a massive impact on real-world performance! Featuring customisable colours, scratch & Javascript support! This event is primarily aimed at children aged 4–7, but adults be warned, it's more fun than it looks!
