Home Educators Day

This is a special day organised to enable home educators to explore the museum and take part in activities that are available to school groups. The content of the museum is best suited to students aged 10 years and older. There are additional activities for accompanying younger students including a family back pack and 'Osmo' learning games.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BOOK THE PAID ENTRY TICKETS AS WELL AS FREE WORKSHOPS.

You are free to explore the museum at your pace. There will be guides on hand to support your learning. In addition to this, we have organised talks for you to attend at set times. Please see below.

Handling session: Explore the museum's collections and find out how computers have changed over 70 years: Times are 11:00 – 11:40, 13:00 – 13:40

Bombe: See Britain's iconic code-breaking machine designed by Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman. Times are 10:30 – 11:00, 11:30 – 12:00, 12:30 – 13:00, 13:30 – 14:00

Valve to Chip: A comprehensive history of computing (1 hour 30 mins). Times are 11:30 – 13:00, 14:00 – 15:30

Turing Test Workshop (min age 10 years): To reserve your place for this workshop, please select 1 free ticket per participant, in addition to ensuring that you have purchased paid tickets for the day. Spaces are limited so please book to avoid disappointment

Power of Primes: Find out how prime number are used in encryption. Times are 12:00 – 12:40, 14:00 – 14:40

Rocket Cars (a drop in workshop between 11:00 – 14:00)

Students will be challenged to design and create a rocket car using K’NeX. Building their design to incorporate a rocket, they will launch their rocket cars using a pneumatic launcher. Will your rocket car stay together? How far will they travel? Can you keep them in a straight line? Students will have the chance to re-visit their creations, adapting their designs after trailing them.
