WWII Simulated Wireless Station

  • The National Museum of Computing Block H, Bletchley Park Bletchley, England, MK3 6GX United Kingdom (map)

Visit The National Museum of Computing and experience a WWII Simulated Wireless Station live on air, operating under the callsign GB1SOE. The Simulated Wireless Station is based on a typical WWII MI6 Station, which would have been used to contact MI6 agents in the field and members of the top-secret British organisation, Special Operations Executive (SOE), responsible for conducting espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance in occupied Europe. The Simulated Wireless Station uses a combination of period and replica equipment to recreate an authentic WWII MI6 Station experience.

On Saturday 11th December, The National Museum of Computing's WWII Simulated Wireless Station will be on air to join the celebrations commemorating the 100th birthday of German amateur radio enthusiast Rudi Staritz, who sadly passed away in July of this year. During the Second World War, Rudi served in the Abwehr (German Intelligence); he later became renowned for his amateur radio work and contributed to Volume 4 of 'Wireless For The Warrior, a publication which documents the history of clandestine wireless sets from across the world.

The Simulated Wireless Station is run by two of our fantastic team of friendly and knowledgeable Museum Volunteers who, coupled with members of the Milton Keynes Amateur Radio Society (MKARS), will be on hand to demonstrate the equipment and answer your questions. The Simulated Wireless Station is on air at intervals throughout the year and in regular contact with stations across Europe.
