Look inside the EDSAC
Explore the world’s first practical computer built at Cambridge University in 1949.
Dr. Andrew Herbert will take you 'behind the barrier' exploring the open racks of the museum’s reconstruction of this fascinating machine. You will see first hand the Classic Components of Von Neumann architecture. All computers use this setup but the components are too small to see. You will see binary numbers in action and take part in activities inspired by early EDSAC programs to calculate square numbers and compute prime numbers.
This talk is aimed at family audiences and is part of the IET's Virtual Engineering Open House Day.
