BBC Micro:Bit Coding Workshop

  • The National Museum of Computing Block H, Bletchley Park Bletchley, England, MK3 6GX United Kingdom (map)

Learn, create and code with the BBC Micro:Bit, a tiny but powerful computer that is transforming the world!

About this Event:

Your journey starts here: become a confident coder and get to grips with how a computer works using the BBC Micro:Bit. Understand how software and hardware work together using this pocket-sized computer, featuring a variety of components, including an LED light display, buttons and sensors, that you can program and physically interact with.

In this session, you will learn how to program your Micro:Bit to run two simple games:

  • Snap the Dot: A game of skill that will test the speed of your reactions.

  • Tug-of-LED: A virtual variation of the popular competitive tug of war rope game.

You will write your program using the Microsoft Makecode Editor and an easy to follow tutorial. You can even watch a video lesson! Dependant on your level, you can choose the programming tool that is right for you. Programming using colour-coded blocks will be familiar to Scratch users, whilst more advanced coders can switch to Python or JavaScript to see the text-based code behind the blocks. View your completed program on Microsoft Makecode's in-built Micro:Bit Emulator, before downloading it to a real Micro:Bit to play your game!
