Raspberry Pi is turning 10! The National Museum of Computing launches innovative new pop-up exhibition in celebration of this milestone anniversary

Today, The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC) has announced the launch of its brand new pop-up exhibition, inaugurated to celebrate the 10th anniversary of an iconic credit card sized computer, the Raspberry Pi.

The opening of the Raspberry Pi Exhibition will kickstart with a special public launch event on Saturday 5th March 2022. This will feature speeches from notable influential individuals at Raspberry Pi, including Raspberry Pi Limited CEO Eben Upton and Raspberry Pi Foundation CEO Philip Colligan. The pair will share their expert knowledge and insights on what the Raspberry Pi Foundation has achieved over the past decade and their ambitious plans for the future, as they continue to inspire and educate the next generation of tech creators. For those who are unable to attend the event in person, the welcome and official opening speeches will be live streamed. Virtual admission is available here.

As part of the launch event, TNMOC is offering two Raspberry Pi-based Physical Computing Workshops, suitable for children as young as seven. The LED computing workshop will see participants create an electrical circuit using a Raspberry Pi that will then be linked to a computer game that they can play. The second workshop will make use of the Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller in conjunction with MicroPython, providing attendees with an exclusive experience of a brand-new, ‘first look’, hands-on activity with this piece of technology.

Storm Rae, Head of Learning and Development at TNMOC commented “Part of the museum’s mission is to inform and educate the next generation into tech, which Raspberry Pi has been instrumental in doing over the last 10 years. Now the museum is building on this goal by offering visitors the chance to experience the Raspberry Pi alongside the BBC Micro, the computer that inspired it. We look forward to the next stage of our partnership with Raspberry Pi, sharing the expertise to inspire younger generations.”

"I'm very proud that we can kick off Raspberry Pi's tenth birthday with an exhibition at this key historic site for computing,” said Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi Limited. “We're delighted to see our computer among major artefacts of British technology. I'm sure that families and young people visiting the exhibition will come away bursting with inspiration, and keen to learn about all the things they can do with computers."
